Faster, higher, stubbier.

King Abdullah of Saudia Arabia flies in to town on this beautiful 747SP HZ-HM1B. Sadly it's routed from the south so it doesn't pass overhead.

Classic Widebody Tuesday

Returning from lunch I see this Iran air 747-200 operating as IR711 from Tehran. The last 747-200 operator into Heathrow as far as I know.

A Modern Classic

Always nice to see a Trijet even if it is the updated MD-11, got a good close look at this one last Sunday (2nd September) during a pleasantly drunk afternoon at the Boston Manor Festival..

Widebody Wednesday

Fortunate enough to spot RA96015 an Ilushyin IL96 this afternoon, the plane was operating as Aeroflot SU241 from Moscow.

Trijet Tuesday

Managed to spot A9C-BA Boeing 727-200 this afternoon around 2:40pm, a fairly regular visitor to Heathrow. 727s used be such a common sight, but it's something special to see this beauty these days. Unusually this airframe has been fitted with two Pratt and Whitney 217 turbofans although it appears to retain the old number two engine.
Came in with the callsign 'Bahrain 3' (BAH3)

Hi!

Well here it is, a blog about spotting interesting airliners over London. I grew up in West London in the 1980s and I miss the range of exciting aircraft that one saw in those days. The Tridents and BAC1-11s are gone now, but from time to time some of the more exotic aircraft can still be seen with a bit of luck and the right information.
The types of aircraft I'm looking for are :
  • TU-154
  • 727
  • 737 -200
  • 747 -100/200/SP
  • IL62
  • IL86/96
  • DC10/MD11
  • L1011 Tristar
